Who We Are
Our History
Prior to the organization of The Sanctified Church of Christ, there were several milestones which took place worthy of our appreciation. All of them are not available to us and some rather sketchy, but we are no less grateful to those who had a burning passion for Holiness in their hearts. Some of them are as follows:
- 1886 – Bro. Lynch was sanctified and carried the message to Chincoteague Island, Virginia.
- 1892 – A group called themselves Christ Sanctified Church Wholly.
- 1895 – “Crowds” set out for Baltimore for odd jobs and spreading Holiness.
- 1897 – “Crowds” moved into Washington, DC.
- 1902 – 1st “Union Meeting” (camp meeting) – Birmingham.
- 1903 – “Crowds” reached California to preach Sanctification.
- 1905 – 2nd “Union Meeting” (camp meeting) – Little Rock.
- 1907 – 3rd “Union Meeting” (camp meeting) – Louisville, KY.
- 1921 – Great Revival in Birmingham.
On the 3rd, 4th and 5th of July, 1937, at Columbus, Georgia, a meeting was held to organize a group of courageous people who with deep concern and burdened hearts felt that action must be taken to preserve the rich heritage of “true scriptural holiness”.
On July 5, 1937, the organization was completed and chose as its name, “The Sanctified Church of Christ“.
In 1996, “Amistad y Vida” (Friendship & Life) joined The Sanctified Church of Christ as its first primarily Spanish local church. The Sanctified Church opened the first Spanish church in Atlanta, Georgia under the ministry of Rev. Hector Julian and Auristela Ordoñez. The General Church Council under the Superintendence of Rev. Sherman Stoess decided to serve the growing Hispanic population of Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois and the United States by starting churches, preaching the message of Scriptural Holiness and attending the basic needs of the international Latin community.
The faith of the Methodist Episcopal Church as set forth by John and Charles Wesley at the beginning of Methodism, particularly the doctrine and experience of Sanctification as a second definite, instantaneous work of grace; we feel is the same faith once delivered unto the saints and is that faith embraced by “The Sanctified Church of Christ”.
